Wild Year are an L.A. synth-pop outfit who released a full-length in 2016, followed up with two singles this year and, in the video for “Twitching + Teasing,” soundtracked a party of masked and costumed weirdos. The video, directed by Rachael Garcia, follows a pensive, lovelorn man wandering through streets populated by masked hangers-out, mesmerized by the vision of a woman, only to arrive at a raging costume party. (Come for the drinks, stay for the dancing girl with the paper-plate face? Sure.) Anyway, the protagonist seeks solace in a bathtub, where he is transported to another dimension.
When that party’s over, check out “The Economics of Emotional Labor,” the single that the quintet — Cole Morrall, Hunter Gurney, Asher Young, Ajay Awasthi and Will Volkmann — released in September. It’s a propulsive jam about the cost of caring and might just help you do better in this dimension.
