That thunder you heard in the distance on Friday was the new Glassjaw single, “Shira,” along with the applause of fans with whom the band has been playing cat-and-mouse the past couple of years. The applause was for the long-awaited official word that the post-hardcore greats would release their first album in 15 years, “Material Control,” on Dec. 1. Close followers knew something was imminent — some of the new song surfaced on the band’s fall tour opening for the Used, and, as it turns out, Glassjaw’s headlining show last week at the Glass House included six songs from the new album. “Material Control,” their first album since 2002’s “Worship and Tribute,” includes the ear-melting “Shira,” a regular in recent live sets. It finds singer Daryl Palumbo, guitarist Justin Beck and gang in all their heavy splendor, so celebrate at the volume of your choosing.
