Miya Folick’s backstory is well known by now, at least on her Southern California home turf: The Santa Ana native was reared in a Buddhist family, lived for a time in New York, did some acting, taught herself to play guitar and wrote a batch of bold confessionals that would become her first EP, “Strange Darling,” in 2015. Last month she released her second EP, “Give It to Me,” a precursor to a full-length on which she has started production. The EP ends with her dreamy, slo-mo take on Joni Mitchell’s 1970 classic “Woodstock,” decelerated so you can enjoy the view. The video for the song reveals Folick not just as a singer-songwriter but as a performance artist.
In conjunction with the new release is the news that both of Folick’s EP’s are being released on limited-edition (750 copies) red vinyl with artwork by painter Meren Karlson. It may be purchased with admission to her EP release show Tuesday (link below).
