Ears Wide Open: The Millenial Club

The Millenial Club are a Whittier-based quartet trading in the warm, emotionally mushy pop of the ’80s and ’90s, songs that echo the days of yacht rock, glossy synth-pop and glossier R&B. The quartet — singer-guitarist Andres Owens, bassist-keyboardist Jared Ortiz, guitarist-saxophonist Jake Stevenson and drummer Tyler Kamei — released their first music last Valentine’s Day, so they thought it appropriate to debut the video for their heartsick single “Give It Up” exactly a year later. Director Brad Michael Wong’s sleek video for the song is like something out of a Tom Cruise mid-’80s vehicle, with vivid colors and deep shadows accenting the ache in Owens’ voice as he croons “So tell me, what do I have to do / to get your attention, honey?” The foursome has an EP on the way this summer, so that would be a good start.
