Transplanted Englishman Andrew James debuted his “California space-rock” project Veers in 2016, stirring desert rock, old-school metal and muscular Brit-rock into an explosive package on a self-titled EP. Veers now return with a new lineup and “[more] new tunes than we know what to do with,” James says — including the surging new classic rocker “Tata Big Star.” It’s the first taste of a new album Veers have made … and bless James’ neighbors for that. “We recorded it all at home (very very loudly) in Echo Park,” he says. “I couldn’t afford to go to some fancy studio, so I thought, ‘Fuck it , I’ll throw the furniture out and do it myself in my living room.’” You’d never know “Tata Big Star” was a home recording from the beefy sonics, though.
Veers — with James joined by guitarist/vocalist Spencer Evan Schuck, bassist Nick Lanata, drummer Jef Pauly and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Sean Brennan — do a West Coast tour starting in late May, with a warm-up show May 5.
