Digging back in time, the video for “Open Your Mind” was shot in Los Angeles back in November of 2016, three years after a songwriting session introduced Rogue Wave’s Zach Rogue to singer Courtney Jaye. The song appeared on Rogue + Jaye‘s 2017 debut, “Pent Up.” While the album was recorded in Nashville and the band is mostly categorized in Americana-country genre-land, “Open Your Mind” takes a little pop in the melody, a little jazz in the drums, and after crossing a stretch of acoustic guitar, opens up into a louder electrified climax as flowers start blooming from Rogue’s mouth (in the video, that is), before settling back against a soft environment. Jaye says it’s “a song about opening up to intimacy and vulnerability without fear, as well as exploring the unknown in ourselves and through another.”
