“In Bloom,” the first single from singer-songwriter Kini Solana, waxes radiantly about a slow-developing love, but it could easily be about the songstress’ fledgling career. It was about five years ago when Solana, a shy teen from the L.A. suburbs, first posted some raw tracks online, recorded straight to Soundcloud using her laptop’s speakers. “I had such low self-esteem I really didn’t ever think I had a chance as a musician,” she says now. Though far from release-ready, the posts gained her a few followers, including some producers. Fast-forward past her time in a high school choir, singing with an a capella group at the University of Oregon, studying music production at Santa Barbara Community College and a failed attempt at an all-female grunge band, and Solana has emerged on her own. The release of “In Bloom” follows her appearance as a featured vocalist on several tracks by the producer POPCULTR, among others. Solana credits the the time she spent at the Burbank production school Icon Collective for her artistic progress. As she sings in the chorus of her single, “It’s like all my dreams are coming true.”
