On the day she released her new single, Miya Folick gave an intimate, offbeat show at Zebulon on Wednesday night.
It was billed as “A Terribly Intimate Evening With …,” a nod to Terrible Records, the label on which she will release her album (date to be announced). Or, as she said, a show that would be “a little different if you have seen us in the past.” The night featured opener John Errol, followed by an appearance by mimes, going by the name The Invisible Women, who moved through the crowd.
Folick then hit the stage, which was transformed into a living room vibe, with comfortable chairs and lamps, and even a framed picture of her parents. The singer-songwriter’s parents were indeed in the audience, and she pointed them out while holding the picture frame. Folick commented that she loves that the photo frame inscription states “Rich and Famous 1991,” but “they were not.”
Before “Freak Out,” Folick warned her band was going to play the “loudest song on the album” … quietly. Before the new single “Stock Image,” she plopped on one of the chairs and explained, “This song is about talking yourself through a sadness.”
