Friends since age 13, Inglewood-grown Latinx band Inner Wave blend synth-wave pop with Latin beats, hip hop, R&B, and psych in their rock-based soup. Last year, Pablo Sotelo (vocals/guitar), Jean Pierre (bass), Elijah Trujillo (guitar), Luis Portillo (drums), and Chris Runners (keys) put out their biggest album, “Underwater Pipe Dreams,” 18 tracks that delivered a whole range of flavors in three-minute bites, some of which now have hit the millions in streaming on Spotify. This new single, “Whoa,” was co-created with their current tourmate, Long Beach artist Bane’s World, aka Shane Blanchard. “Whoa” started off as a joke, a beat Sotelo made in 2013 for Trujillo to rap over. Sotelo revived the track this year and invited Blanchard to sing on it. As a little hidden nugget, part of Trujillo’s original rap remains as a pitched-down sample on the chorus.
