Juliette Lewis brought the heat Friday night to her turn fronting Juliette & the Licks at the Teragram Ballroom — and not just the band’s own single “Hot Kiss,” but a cover of Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff,” as well as thew sweaty rage typical of her performances.
Her infectious energy and wildly athletic stage presence kept the hair flying and the audience smiling. After playing “Mind Full of Daggers,” “Sticky Honey” and “Got Love to Kill” early in the set, the band switched out drummers, with Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave) joining to perform “Hard Lovin’ Woman.” Late in the set, they tossed in a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary.” With Lewis saying she’s not sure when the band will play L.A. again, they returned for an encore of “This I Know” and “You’re Speaking My Language.”
Sumo Princess opened the night.
