In the nearly seven years since Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob teamed up as In The Valley Below, the duo have released an album and three EPs (charting with their single “Peaches”), forsaken Los Angeles for a home in the Upper Midwest and become parents. Musically, they’ve explored several nuances of electronic pop, from dark and brooding to playful and psychedelic, and those adventures continue on their second full-length, “The Pink Chateau” (due Oct. 5).

It’s hard to believe the new single “Desperate Dance” was penned in the basement of a 94-year-old Grand Rapids, Mich., house in the dead of winter, but here it is, a blithely kaleidoscopic dance-pop track imploring the listener, against all odds, to “do it now or never” because “your chance is now to shake your feathers.” The duo shook all the way to Joshua Tree to film make the video for the track, where there was a baptism involved.
