Dev Ray is the solo project of Devin Ratliff, whose intoxicating indie-pop bricolage includes airy vocals, bristling guitar, stuttering beats and a little slippery synth. His first song “Can’t Hide” came out last week via Dangerbird Records’ Microdose singles series, and if all you’d heard from Dev Ray beforehand was his slo-mo cover of the Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited,” this may have seemed out of left field. Ratliff, a veteran of local bands such as So Many Wizards and Tomemitsu, has another single on the way next month, again via Dangerbird.
