Following up last year’s punk rap album “Freaked Out American Loser,” Milwaukee-bred, L.A.-based Juiceboxxx has a new EP, “Never Surrender Forever” coming Sept. 14 on Dangerbird Records and it’s a pleasant surprise detour into alt-pop. “In some ways, the recordings and the live show have intersected, but never been on the exact same page,” he says. “My new music aims to more thoroughly communicate what I feel is the most special thing about the show and the band and put that to record.”

He’s said before that the project drew as much influence from Public Enemy as it did Bruce Springsteen, and the new EP finds him wavering a little more towards the Boss. Recorded with his live backing band and co-produced with Aaron Espinoza (Earlimart), the EP’s title track re-imagines a song from 2012’s “I Don’t Wanna Go Into The Darkness,” replacing samples with instruments, lightening up the song while still perpetuating it as an anthem. “I come out of some pretty deep scenes, but I’ve always wanted to make music that can connect with a lot of people,” Juiceboxxx says. “I think in the coming year I’m going to finally deliver this elusive sound that’s been in my heart for a long time. I have a reason to keep living and I have a reason to change my life and it’s all because I still believe in the music.”
