The Absurd

Ever since their rock ā€™nā€™ roll adventures brought them to L.A. a few years back, Ben Foerg and Josh Loney have been giving hard rock fans reasons to bang their heads, or even lose them. The duo met five years ago at Michigan State University, spend some time in Colorado, came west and, after going through five drummers, befriended Colin Jensen and embarked on turning their body-slamming riffs into songs as the Absurd. They’ve released three EPs and handful of singles and melted the paint off the walls at just about every club in L.A.

Their debut album “Build the Wall” is out Friday, a conflagration of heavy psychedelia that sees Foerg caterwauling over the daunting muscle-flexing of his rhythm section. The band has adopted the slogan “Make America Absurd Again,” but the album, produced by Joshua Martinez (Rosechild), thunders with serious intent and political overtones. The title track “Build the Wall” gnaws away at your comfort zone while Foerg bemoans “sordid ideology,” then exploding in gale-force noise, as if a blast of guitar could blow red hats off heads and into the abyss. If only.
