Tidal Babes started as a collaboration between singer Lyndsi Austin and songwriter-producer Chris Qualls, both of whom had been orbiting the pop world. The duo decided kick up a little dust as rockers. They dialed in to the edgy power-pop that embodies the Southern California life — surf guitars, big hooks, spunky female vocals backed by sunny harmonies — and vowed not to overthink anything. They enlisted Moving Units’ Danny DeLeon to drum. And, as their new single says, “Bam.”

It’s bouncy and blithe as hundreds of Southern California bands have done before but few have done this well. Director Willy Roberts’ video for the single serves not only as a fine introduction to the band but as advertisement for the lifestyle. Put down the top on the convertible, grab the surfboards, spend a day at the beach, then hit the clubs at night. Rinse, repeat.

The single is officially out on Friday.
