With a Grammy nomination already under her belt for her second album, “The Switch (Deluxe Edition),” R&B pop songstress Emily King is on solid ground for her upcoming full length, “Scenery,” releasing Feb. 1 on ATO. Her new single, “Look At Me Now” is a Mary J. Blige/Queen-influenced confection addressed to a former lover. With soul-infused pleads too hot to touch, she does a bit of breast-beating, “Did you hear about me? / I got out the crowd / I stood up / Will you look at me now? / Look at me now.” It’s a great post-break-up song, when the anger and rejection still stings as one moves forward. About the song, King says, “I wanted to write a song addressing someone who hurt you in the past. As if you just run into them on the street one day and now’s your chance to let them know how great you’ve been doing. But really, all you want is their attention. Insecurity disguised as swagger.” No need to be at a loss for words, “Look At Me Now” can be all you need to sing in your former lover’s face next time you see them. Snapping optional as you walk off with your head up.
