Glacial Palms

Under the name Sikemor, siblings Rafael, Gabe and Fiona Cansino made ethereal folk music, releasing an EP in 2016 that was strong on celestial harmonies and filmy textures. Evolution came quickly, though, and with the addition of Shane Graham, Andrew Gleason and Bertrand Vellky, they recently rechristened the project Glacial Palms.

It’s not a far leap from folk to the intricately arranged dream-pop on Glacial Palm’s debut EP, “Dreams Elusive,” which came out this week. It’s a five-song collection that, like the work of ’90s husband-and-wife folk dreamers the Innocence Mission, finds strength in nuance and detail. Fiona Cansino’s almost-breakable vocals add an astral touch to brother Rafael’s wistful tenor on the title track; “Castles” pulls the listener through a dark moment (“I just sat alone / paralyzed, paralyzed”) on sparkling guitars and insistent drums; and after genteel sibling vocals introduce “Humanoid,” it turns into a full-on rocker.
