For almost 20 years, San Diego trio Earthless has been all about exploring the nether reaches of instrumental psych-rock — until this spring, when they released “Black Heaven,” their first album with vocals. Their show at the Satellite on Friday, the second of a two-night stand there offering up different sets, was mostly about their shredding and their heavy stoner rock. Oh, and the Mad Alchemy liquid light show.

After San Diego compatriots Volcano opened, Earthless took over, improvising as the whim struck and thoroughly engrossing everyone in the crowd. They did inspire a one-man mosh pit, which was more an annoyance than anything; he ended up leaving the pit a bit bloodied.
