Penelope Edmonds, who’s releasing music as Penelope, was a rising star in the soccer world before fate intervened. Born and reared in New York City to Australian parents, she was a standout goalkeeper, training with the Australian national team and recruited to play at Stanford, before suffering an injury that would end her soccer career.

The 21-year-old has channeled her energies into songwriting, and “Dreamer” is her first single. Produced by Mike Pepe (who has worked with Taking Back Sunday, among others) in concert with Joel Madden and his MDDN development team and featuring drums by Dash Hutton (ex-Haim), the song is a bright guitar track with some of Natalie Merchant’s directness and verve. The video is the work of GAB3, who follows the singer-songwriter as she cruises down Hollywood Boulevard.
