Jutty Ranx

As album titles go, Jutty Ranx’s “Discordia” represents a pretty nifty subtext, if it indeed refers to Eris (in Latin, Discordia), the goddess of chaos. Little about the L.A.-based trio’s career arc has been easy or seems to make sense; they’ve been big hits overseas (their single “I See You” is double-platinum in Italy), yet in America, where you’d think every Chromeo-loving fan would bum-rush their parties, they’ve barely been a blip on the radar. Perhaps today’s release via The End Records will change that, because disco-pop fans could hardly ask for a more exuberant (and less one-note) collection of songs. The band combines the talents of charismatic singer Justin Taylor, Finnish production ace Jaakko Manninen (Beats and Styles) and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Malina. Sprinkling in electro-funk and island influences with Taylor’s deft lyricism, “Discordia” is as vibrant and irresistible a dance-pop record as any made by your favorite festival headliner.
