Stream: Wand, ‘Stolen Footsteps’

Wand

By the time their third album comes out in September, Wand will have crafted a catalog it takes most bands half a decade to create. “1000 Days,” due Sept. 25 on Drag City, will be their third full-length release since August of last year, when they blasted onto the scene with “Ganglion Reef.” They followed up with “Golem” in March, a raging but conceptual plate of causticity with some obvious ’60s garage-rock and ’70s psych antecedents. Considering their touring schedule, it’s hard to believe that the band — singer-guitarist Cory Hanson, bassist Lee Landey and drummer Evan Burrows — had any time to record another album. They did, and although Wand are prone to — and quite good at — the heavy pyrotechnics of guitar and synth, the new song “Stolen Footsteps” is simply an eerie incantation over queasy synth. We think there might be a veiled message in the chorus: “Stealing intuition / ’cause your life is such a bore.” As they have over the past year, Wand is giving listeners a lot to digest.
