The newest song from Silversun Pickups recalls the early days of the Silver Lake quartet, when frontman Brian Aubert occasionally yielded the mic to bassist to Nikki Monninger, whose meek but endearing vocals added a sweet touch to early songs such as “Kissing Families” and “Little Lover’s So Polite” (and carried the angelic “Creation Lake.”) “Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)” follows “Nightlight” as the second song to emerge from SSPU’s fourth album, “Better Nature” (out Sept. 25). Aubert and Monninger trade off vocal duties here, and it was Monninger who wrote the new song’s lyrics. “It’s her homage to a friend who passed away,” Aubert explains. “I knew she had something going on, and I’m happy that this song became a vessel for it.” In other news, both are much better singers than they were in 2005.
