Stream: Soko, ‘Who Wears the Pants??’

soko-scSoko is a punk rocker. And why not? Stéphanie Sokolinski has been a lot of other things — the French-born, L.A.-based artist has been a successful actress, a dabbler in indie-folk, a DIY videographer and a collaborator with outsider types like Ariel Pink. She just announced that her sophomore album, the boldly titled “My Dreams Dictate My Reality,” would be out March 3 via her own Babycat Records, and if you’ve caught Soko live recently you know that it doesn’t much resemble 2012’s “I Thought I Was an Alien.” Here, the 29-year-old summons a 19-year-old’s tenacity, teaming up with producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Limp Bizkit, At The Drive-In, the Cure) for some old-school rawk with a Pretenders flavor. Of the single “Who Wears the Pants??,” Soko says it was written “when I got fed up with all the crap I hear from homophobic demons.” And bless her leather jacket, it works.
