L.A. quartet the Briggs have been largely off the radar since the latter part of last decade, when you couldn’t go to a sporting event without hearing their pugilistic civic-pride anthem “This Is LA” (part of the Kings’ and the Galaxy’s soundtrack). Their 2008 album “Come All You Madmen,” their fourth, seemed to signal they had squeezed all the blood and sweat out they could out of their working-class punk-rock aesthetic, but the band, anchored by brothers Jason and Joey LaRocca, sound invigorated on a new, self-titled EP (also being released as a 7-inch) that is due next month and also includes their 2012 one-off “Panic!” Theirs is an energy that launched a thousand Warped Tours — like long-running bands such as Flogging Molly and Bad Religion, the Briggs tackle personal and cultural issues with blue-collar honesty. “You would think by now / I would have my shit together,” they shout in the chorus to the new song “Seriously, How Old Are You?” Keep trying, guys; nice to have you back.
