New EPs: the Happy Hollows, the Pity Party

The Happy Hollows’ first proper EP, ‘Imaginary,” offers exactly what the L.A. trio’s growing fanbase has come to expect: chunky chords and audacious clatter reminiscent of Pixies/Bikini Kill/Yeah Yeah Yeahs — well, except for frontwoman Sarah Negahdari’s nicest-girl-you-ever-met-in-a-bookstore giggle. How you get the five-song EP, however, is the twist. Starting today, using the widget you’ll find after the jump, you can: 1) sample the EP; 2) you can get it for free if you forward it to five friends; or 3) you can pay-what-you-want to purchase it. “Obviously, the idea is to get the music out to as many people as possible,” says the band’s manager, Joshua Fisher, who will release the trio’s full-length in February on his new imprint, HEART.
Also today, L.A. experimental two-piece the Pity Party will be offering its new EP, “Hot Work,” for free download. Details on the band’s MySpace page.
