Tonight in L.A.

[My vast database of arcane facts tells me that 20 years ago today, the No. 1 song in the nation was Phil Collins’ “Groovy Kind of Love,” marking the last time “groovy” was used in a non-ironic sense.]

thegoldenratioSwedish electro-pop songstress Robyn (“Cobrastyle,” “Who’s That Girl”) can be awfully fun live, but unplugged? Her appearance at Club NME at Spaceland tonight is being billed as “acoustic.” … There’s also the second night of the sold-out Conor Oberst/the Like/All Smiles show at the Music Box @ Fonda, if you want to scramble for a ticket. … And speaking of Oberst, the Felice Brothers — whose debut is out on the Oberst’s Team Love label — play the Troubadour. … Germany-based electro giants VNV Nation plug-and-play at the El Rey. … The show featuring Spider Problem, originally scheduled for Safari Sam’s, is going off at Bordello. … And “How Long ’til Never?” — the latest EP from the Golden Ratio [pictured] — makes a nice impression. Imagine Garbage and Mazzy Star trapped in a planetarium. It’s available for download from the band’s website; the Golden Ratio celebrates the release with a show tonight at the Silverlake Lounge.
