‣ Stocking stuffer alert: Two fine compilation CDs are out right now, both charity efforts and both featuring great L.A. and international acts. First, there’s the fifth edition of Give. Listen. Help. — a joint effort from Urban Outfitters (where you can buy it) and Filter Magazine [tracklist]. It benefits the Pablove Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where Pablo Castelaz, son of Dangerbird Records chief Jeff Castelaz, is undergoing treatment for cancer. (Full backstory here.) Disc 1 features a new track from Garbage, as well as songs from the likes of Radiohead, Bloc Party and Oasis, and the second disc has contributions from the Dangerbird roster, including Silversun Pickups, Darker My Love and the Dears. Then there is the Hotel Cafe Presents Winter Songs, benefiting breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The holiday collection has originals from the likes of Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson and Brandi Carlile, as well as some choice covers — including Katy Perry’s take on “White Christmas.” Shop away.
‣ Against Me!’s Tom Gabel gets some well-deserved press love.
‣ Everest opens the big Neil Young show next week, and I almost missed this, but You Set the Scene had a nice sitdown with guitarist Joel Graves here.
‣ New Trashcan Sinatras. Cheers.
‣ AC/DC’s new video, in the form of an Excel program. What will they think of next?
‣ The Smiths at Coachella. Oh, those tabloids.
‣ Two Dave Navarro sightings in downtown L.A. in one week — he headlines tonight’s opening of uber-club Versus.
