[I return from a few days off, and what am I faced with? Rain, Halloween hangovers, Lulu’s birthday … and one of the most jam-packed show-going nights of the year. With a nod of thanks to my intern Buzz, who handled the daily show posts while I was away, here’s how tonight shapes up:]
Magnetic Morning, the collaboration between Swervedriver’s Adam Franklin and Interpol’s Sam Fogarino [see this], hits the Roxy. … The very good Scottish four-piece Frightened Rabbit plays the Echoplex, with the Spinto Band on board. … Over at the El Rey, there’s a great twinbill — Swedish songbird Lykke Li, along with my new favorite dance band, the British outfit Friendly Fires. “Paris” does it for me. … Then there is Arctic Monkey Alex Turner’s project, the Last Shadow Puppets, at the Mayan; Turner and the Puppets’ other principal, Miles Kane, are 22 years old. Whew. … Oh, and we’re not done with Sweden yet — underrated Mando Diao plays the Troubadour, while Marching Band gets a rare turn as an out-of-town Spaceland resident. The band will share Mondays in November with tuneful locals the Western States Motel [that’s Carl Jordan, pictured]. … At the Echo, Weave! kicks off its residency with an album-release show. … The Monolators will be playing Mondays this month at Pehrspace in Echo Park. … End Roulette (the new moniker for local quartet Hazelden) performs with Steel Panther at the Key Club. … Dalmacio Von Diamond plays the Scene in Glendale, while Parts & Labor is in from New York to play the Smell. … And Canadian quintet Mother Mother heads a big lineup at the Silverlake Lounge. Hope that’s enough to get you out of the house.
Lulu looking good for 60.
