Ben Harper’s new Relentless7 plays L.A. next month

relentless7-myspaceI’m told the principals are not yet giving interviews, but since I spent some time jamming out to electric blues on MySpace this morning I thought I’d give you a heads-up about Relentless7. It’s the new project of Ben Harper, and the songs’ vintage guitar-god trappings take me back to more … er, innocent times. Lead guitar duties are handled by Jason Mozersky of the Austin band O:A, with the rhythm section manned by Jesse Ingalls and Jordan Richardson, both late of the L.A. quintet Oliver Future.

The two songs on MySpace are the jammy, 10-minute “Serve Your Soul” and a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times, Bad Times” — familiar turf for the ex-Oliver Future guys, since that band occasionally played as a (quite sensational) cover band called Pudge Zeppelin. Billboard has more on Relentless7.

The new band plays Dec. 3 at the Belly Up Tavern in San Diego before hitting L.A. for shows Dec. 4 at Spaceland and Dec. 5 at the Mint.
