Saturday: There’s an incredible music lineup (along with visual arts offerings) at the Sound Downtown Music & Arts Festival in Santa Ana. Yeah, Hollywoodsters, that’s in O.C., but it’s easy: You hop on the I-5, point it south and look for the big green signs. … Also In O.C., for your screaming pleasure, Underoath rocks the Bren Center. … Brooklyners and Pitchfork faves Gang Gang Dance bring it at the El Rey. … Danielson marks the release of its retrospective, “Trying Hartz (First Fruits ’94-’04),” at the Troubadour [download: “Animal in Every Corner”]. … L.A. folkie Aaron Beaumont celebrates the release of “Nothing’s Forever, Not Even Goodbye” at the Hotel Cafe. … Adult and Pop Noir entertain at the Echoplex. … And Minus the Bear — who also play the Music Box @ Fonda on Sunday with Annuals — perform at the Glass House.
Sunday: The big news Sunday is the first Part Time Punks Festival, which brings A Certain Ratio to the Echoplex for the Manchester post-punks’ first U.S. show since 1985. A great mix of cutting-edge newbies and bands reunited. [Full schedule after the jump]. … Also, downtown’s Club Nokia has the B-52’s, supported by tuneful locals the 88. … Fun youngsters A Cursive Memory rock the Troubadour. … And on the mellow side, formidable local songwriter Charlie Wadhams continues his residency at Tangier.
I have probably missed some things, but I am but one geek.

Hey, really enjoy BuzzBands. I live in the LA area and
thought I’d just let you guys know about this show that’s coming up at
The Echo. I got wind of this guy named Rodriguez recently from a friend. He’s been around for a long time, but just had his first album reissued and is now touring in support of it. This dude is in his mid-60s and this is the first time he’s played west of Detroit. It’s weird like psych folk soul and is really pretty amazing.
He’s playing in LA on the 21st at The Echo and SF on the 23rd at The Great
American Music Hall (with The Entrance Band).
I don’t know, I hadn’t heard anything about it very many of the local blogs and thought that I’d just spread the word as I thought people would really
interested in this.
Hope this gets a few more folk out at the show.
Dead Confederate are a super-refreshing band. It’s so nice to see bands using guitars and vocals to carry a song instead of Fruity Loops. Not that there’s anything wrong with Fruity Loops…
