[Happy birthday to Fabolous, who was born 31 years ago. He was John Jackson then.]
The Hotel Cafe Tour hits town tonight at the Music Box @ Fonda, and although Rachael Yamagata’s name is boldfaced plenty of folks will be there to see Hotel Cafe waitress-makes-good Meiko and tuneful L.A. folkie Emily Wells. … Matisyahu is holding forth at Club Nokia, and the show isn’t listed as sold out. Is he over already? … Fans of the Eastside scene face tough choices tonight: Everest [see below] headlines Indie 103.1’s Check One Twosdays at the Echo; Wait. Think. Fast. celebrates its album release at the Echo; and some very good up-and-comers, including Local Natives, play the Silverlake Lounge. … And, of course, there is Radio Free Silver Lake’s Let’s Independent at Boardner’s.*** It’s the swan song for Joe Fielder’s series at Boardner’s, and topping tonight’s lineup is the Broken Remotes [pictured], who killed it the last time I saw them. … Then there is Abe Vigoda at the Smell. … And there’s a free “Chinese Democracy” listening event the Roxy. Hmm.
*** Update: No cover for the RFSL event tonight — as a well-deserved tip of the cap to Mr. Fielder, the bands are playing for free.
Free listening party for Chinese Democracy? Hey, herpes is free, too.
I saw Matisyahu at Pemberton this past summer and he was not awful live, but it had pretty much devolved into festival jam band music.
Let’s keep herpes old school! Possibly we could give it some street wear cred?
