In other news, Tamborello refused to rule out an eventual sophomore album for the Postal Service, although the collaboration’s other half, Death Cab for Cutie’s Benjamin Gibbard, told RollingStone.com it was unlikely a follow-up to 2003’s “Give Up” would ever come out. Says Tamborello: “It’s just better if there are no expectations for it.”
Meanwhile, Figurine has a song on the compilation album “I’ll Stay ‘Til After Christmas,” a benefit for Amnesty International. Radar Bros., Au Revoir Simone and My Brightest Diamond are among the other artists on the CD.
‣ If I were me, and I am, I’d be listening to Jonesy’s Jukebox on Indie 103.1 on Thursday. I hear that there will be a world premiere of a massive new song by a former Coachella headliner. Update: The station has announced it will be premiering the song by by Prince.
‣ Whether Tangier, the shuttered Los Feliz restaurant/venue, ever hosts shows again is up in the air. Scott Sterling, the Fold booker, will not be mounting shows there in the near future. “It’s just untenable,” he says.
‣ Slightly hilarious goings-on between the Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer, her label Roadrunner Records and the Internerds — all over Palmer’s apparently not-svelte-enough figure. The website Metal Sucks reported she’d been dropped by her label “because of her belly fat,” which is not true. At least the part about being dropped. Palmer, who performed Tuesday night at the Music Box @ Fonda behind her new solo material, responded via her blog that her tummy is indeed an issue with her label and she has asked to be released from her deal. If that dude said what she said he said, I wouldn’t want to make records for him either.
‣ In the holiday spirit, here’s a nice cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River” from L.A. singer-songwriter Lex Land.
‣ Holidays, Part II: Local indie rockers Death to Anders wrote a cool original, although I would fire either the manager or whoever came up with the title: “Our Manager Says That Writing a Christmas Song Is a Good Business Decision (Because the Bloggers Will Eat That Shit Up).”
‣ The Warped Tour starts June 26 in Pomona and ends Aug. 26 in L.A.
‣ And finally, eRockster interviewed Datarock (looks like the interview was actually done during the Detour Festival) and unearthed one interesting tidbit: Devo will be involved in a track on the Norwegian dance band’s next album.
thanks for posting the death to anders christmas song, mr. bronson . . . they sound like such nice boys, and their manager must be a peach!
