Sara Lov gears up for a big 2009

It was hard not to completely swoon last spring, when I heard the fresh-out-of-the-studio recordings of Sara Lov’s album “Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming.” The Devics frontwoman — like her collaborator, pianist Dustin O’Halloran — had gone solo, crafting a batch of languorous pop that retains the cumulus quality of Devics but harbors the lightning-bolt intensity of its narrator. Now the album’s release is imminent (March 17 on Nettwerk), and Lov is getting busy supporting it.
She kicks off a Tuesday residency at Spaceland tonight. A teaser disc, “The Young Eyes EP” (available now digitally, Jan. 20 physically) is built around the single “New York,” a ballad sure to tug anybody with bicoastal heartstrings. Also on the EP: covers of Beck’s “Timebomb” and the Arcade Fire’s “My Body Is a Cage.”
