This weekend in L.A.: Delta Spirit, Autolux, lots more

[Susanna Hoffs slices up some birthday cake on Saturday, and I hope it’s sweet. Here’s a small slice of what’s on your plate this weekend …]

paramountstylesFriday: A crazy-busy night to start a bustling weekend has several offerings in the big rooms. Boyz II Men, with local dance outfit Jupiter Rising opening, visits Club Nokia; Pennywise rocks the Palladium; and the suddenly big Delta Spirit brings its folk-blues rock to the El Rey Theatre, where Everest opens. … It’s female-fronted punk at both ends of town – the Start rock the Troubadour, while the Muffs and the Dollyrots shake things up at Spaceland. … And Theresa Andersson returns to the Hotel Cafe; her set is followed by Eleni Mandell, and if you consider Emily Wells is playing after that, it’s three good reasons to battle Cahuenga Boulevard.

Saturday: If that deadpan rasp sounds familiar, you’re probably having a Girls Against Boys flashback and watching Scott McCloud [pictured] front his new project, Paramount Styles. Behind its debut “Failure American Style” (recommended if you like GVSB), the band makes its first L.A. appearance, at Spaceland. … At the Music Box @ Fonda, Autolux comes out of hiding for a show. … The Pacific entertains at Bordello. … And at the Troubadour, Fool’s Gold headlines, but I’ll be on a little road trip, so could somebody get there for (the MySpace-less) Dot Hacker’s 9:30 set and tell me how it is?

Sunday: Hello Dragon leads a great lineup for a benefit show at Spaceland. … And Avi Buffalo takes on Alex’s Bar in Long Beach. ..
