[Happy birthday, Mac Davis — I hope you’re keeping it in the fairway …]
The Ettes’ female-fronted garage rock, first unleashed on L.A. ears about four years ago, is hardly better than on its September release “Look at Life Again Soon” – urgent, low-fi, gnarly and making you wonder who’d win if the Ramones arm-wrestled the Runaways. The trio departed L.A. for the vagabond life over a year ago, recorded their album in London and return to familiar Silver Lake environs for a show at Spaceland, where Useless Keys open tonight’s Club NME festivities. … Across town, Glacier Hiking, whose monstrous choruses could probably melt an ice floe or two, celebrates the release of “The Color by Number EP,” which I touted back in October. Army Navy opens that show at the Troubadour. … Brazilian genre-mashers Curumin play the Echo, where Money Mark will guest with the band. … British electro outfit Metronomy, supported by the Mae Shi, play the Music Box @ Fonda. … Exuberant electro kids Peachcake are in from Arizona — OC Weekly backgrounds — for a show at the Knitting Factory that also features MC Lars. (Peachcake also plays Chain Reaction on Thursday.) … And 60 Watt Kid plays the Silverlake Lounge, while the Rescues continue their string of Wednesday nights at the Hotel Cafe.
