Ӣ Excellent overview in the LA Weekly on the demise of Indie 103.1. There was a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding when the station went away last week, and this should clear up most issues.
”¢ I’m pretty sure this is a Sign of the Apocalypse: Lily Allen now has her own Facebook application. Called the “Lilypoke,” no less. “Fans can throw Lily’s accessories such as a cigarette, champagne bottle or platform shoe at their friends!” the press release breathlessly tells me. Because sometimes you want to do that to somebody who makes pedestrian music.
”¢ This might not appear on your standard gig lists because of the venue, but Akron/Family is doing three nights in March at the Steve Allen Theatre as part of series of “intimate residencies” in various cities supporting their forthcoming album “Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free.” The dates are March 10-11-12; the album is out May 5.
”¢ Download a new Decemberists’ track, “The Rake’s Song.” New album “The Hazards of Love” is out March 24.
”¢ Spin has an exclusive (and limited time) download of “Heart Attack,” a new song by next-big-things Wild Light. Cool stuff. The band is at the El Rey Theatre on Saturday with Tapes ‘N Tapes.
”¢ And you can stream the new album “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand” right here, thanks to MySpace. If you’re like me, you will be tired of “dirty synths” by Track 5.
