Videos: Oren Lavie, Asobi Seksu

A funny thing happened to writer/theater director/songwriter Oren Lavie on his way to obscurity: KCRW-FM’s Chris Douridas exposed audiences to his music, and then Lavie got a song in a Chevrolet commercial (even though he’d never owned a car is his life and doesn’t watch TV). The tune, “Her Morning Elegance” (off his forthcoming album “The Opposite Side of the Sea”), gets a striking treatment in a video made from 3,225 still photographs. The L.A.-based Lavie co-directed, with Yuval and Merav Nathan. [More background here.]

New York dreampop specialists Asobi Seksu release their third album, “Hush” (Polyvinyl), on Feb. 17. In advance of that (and tour dates in Europe, Canada and the United States), they’ve released a video for the tune “Me & Mary,” a surging, densely layered pop number, with a Japanese chorus that translates to “I’m chasing after things that don’t exist,” according to Spin.com.” The stars of this video are frontwoman Yuki Chikudate, guitarist James Hanna and a changling backdrop.
