Sara Lov covers SSPU – who’s the tambourine man?

1

Here’s a fun little DIY video from L.A. singer-songwriter Sara Lov’s cover series. Lov, whose debut album “Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming” comes out March 17, covers Silversun Pickups’ “Kissing Families,” with sideman/producer Zac Rae playing a small piano. And, yes, that’s SSPU frontman Brian Aubert joining in on tambourine.

Speaking of the Pickups, their sophomore effort “Swoon” is out April 14. They talked a little about it in a MySpace bulletin Tuesday. The tracklisting: There’s No Secrets This Year / The Royal We / Growing Old Is Getting Old / It’s Nice to Know You Work Alone / Panic Switch / Draining / Sort Of / Substitution / Catch and Release / Surrounded (Or Spiraling). No local dates in sight for the local band – they are scheduled to play the Coachella and Sasquatch festivals this spring.

I tooled around on YouTube after watching the Lov video and found one of Aubert covering Joy Division’s “Shadowplay.” Commenters, of course, compared it to the Killers’ cover from last year. “Shadowplay” actually has long been in the Silversun Pickups’ arsenal – I have a version of it from SSPU’s original demos, which date to … 2002? 2003? Can’t remember. It’s a demo, remember, but have a listen (sorry, no download, stream-only):
