Tonight in L.A.: M. Ward, Cut Off Your Hands

[Happy birthday today to old f.o.b.b.* Linus of Hollywood, who appeared in the very first Buzz Bands column.]

Maybe it’s because it’s early in the morning and I’m cranky, but some things just puzzle me. Like the energy spent on 98% of the stuff on YouTube. Take Johnny Bennett’s video for “Sister Pharmaceutical” [above], which, thankfully, is only 2 minutes long. Will somebody tell me what the point is? Bennett plays tonight at the Key Club. … At Spaceland, New Zealand’s Cut Off Your Hands is joined by local twee-poppers Princeton, while over at the Mint it’s Shaimus’ record-release party for “The Sad Thing Is, We Like It Here.” M. Ward’s show at the Music Box @ Fonda will be the fantastic, I’m sure, but I’ll venture to say you could do almost as well at the Roxy, where a very good lineup includes Daniel Ahearn [pictured], Angela Correa and AM, among others. … So Many Wizards do their magic at Bordello, while Megasapien will rock the Viper Room. … And my how time flies: It’s Papa Roach’s 20th anniversary at the Troubadour.
