[Happy birthday to John Frusciante, long may you shred …]

Most L.A. music fans have seen Jessica Dobson – she’s the guitarist in Beck’s live band – but not many know her as Deep Sea Diver. Signed to Atlantic Records at age 20, Dobson is quite a performer in her own right. (OC Weekly had a nice story on her in December.) Prior to gigs opening for the western leg of Conor Oberst’s tour, Deep Sea Diver is celebrating the release of a new EP with a show at the Art Theatre (2025 E. 4th St., Long Beach), where she will be joined by Marika (joined by Cold War Kids campers Nate Willett and Matt Wignall) and Two Guns. … Best bets, early: Neko Case’s free in-store at Amoeba (7 p.m.), followed by, a half block away, Army Navy’s set (8 p.m.) at Space 15 Twenty. … Big night elsewhere: You can get clarity with Jimmy Eat World at Club Nokia (sold out), and you can get loud with Bigelf at the Key Club; or you can get with it with Bishop Lamont at the Knitting Factory. … Useless Keys get a headlining gig at Spaceland. … It’s Wet Cassette and the Lieutenants at the Echo. … Avi Buffalo is the big attraction at 3 Clubs. …”  Ima Robot plays the Detroit Bar, and there was some buzz about, ahem, young up-and-comers Dead Man’s Bones, but theirs will be a DJ set, according to things I read online. … And elsewhere, We Barbarians hit the Silverlake Lounge; Ragsy holds forth at Air Conditioned; and Giant State plays the Viper Room. … Final notes: The shows featuring Russian rock band Mumiy Troll scheduled for tonight and Friday at the Roxy have been postponed due to illness (the Ringers and the Crash Kings play tonight); and Cary Brothers’ scheduled gig at the Troubadour has also been scotched.
