[I’m a few days ahead of myself, but I would be remiss if I did not point out that the Cure’s headlining set Sunday at Coachella falls two days before Robert Smith’s 50th birthday. Let’s all get our eyeliner just so, OK?]
Buzz Bands is in Indio, where highs are forecast in the upper 80s and low 90s this weekend. I will do my best to blog until my feet are sore, wear sunscreen and remain hydrated, and you might see some guest bloggers before the weekend is up. My weekend forecast for L.A. club shows will be brief; please forgive me.
Tonight: The Cave Singers hit Spaceland, while a couple of songwriting legends have shows across town – John Prine at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott at McCabe’s. … Wild-card show: Austin Hartley-Leonard at the Hotel Cafe.
Saturday: The Drones are in from Australia, sharing the bill with local heroes Abe Vigoda at Spaceland. … Wild-card: Leslie & the Badgers and Mississippi Man at Pehrspace. … In addition, it’s Record Store Day – and there are in-store performances and promotions everywhere. (At Fingerprints, for instance, the Bird and the Bee are scheduled to play.)
Sunday: Richard Buckner is at McCabe’s, and Colorado’s the Epilogues play Spaceland. … Wild-card: Lisa Donnelly at the Hotel Cafe.
If you’re coming out to the desert, travel safely and practice patience. It’s a festival, after all.
