Wolfmother [visit the site to sign up for the download of the new single “Back Round”] sure was great a couple Fridays ago in the Natural History Museum’s Mammals Hall (imagine that), but I was surprised that the set started and ran so late, since the museum’s First Fridays events usually wrap up by around 10. … Speaking of Australians, I hear that SXSW buzz-makers the Temper Trap are signing to Glassnote. …”  ‘Bout Time Dept.: I wrote about the promising new All Smiles album back in October, and finally Jim Fairchild’s “Oh for the Getting and Not Letting Go” will be released on June 30. … Love the stuff on Low Vs Diamond’s recently posted Daytrotter session. … Cornelius’ shows scheduled for Thursday at the Mayan and Saturday at the Glass House were canceled because of “Swine Flu concerns and increased governmental travel restrictions,” but the reasons for the postponement (until September) of the Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan show May 31 at the El Rey were less clear – “unavoidable circumstances,” Campbell said in a MySpace message. … Cinco de Mayo wasn’t much of a party for Gliss – the L.A. trio’s van was broken into in Newark, N.J., and among the items stolen was a 1979 Fender Precision bass (serial No. S899012 or S899013) that frontman Martin Klingman received as a childhood gift from his grandfather. … After hearing industry types chatter about Monsters of Folk (the supergroup with Conor Oberst, Jim James, M. Ward and Mike Mogis) and the advance they’re seeking for the album they’ve recorded, I guess I’m curious to hear the music. … Add Mogis: Alex Brown Church is recording the sophomore Sea Wolf album in Omaha with the Bright Eyes producer, aiming for a September release. … And speaking of sophomore albums, I wonder how the Klaxons are doing with theirs – since they had to re-record it. … Jimmy Tamborello says he’s working on “a hard-core project” under the name Dustmite, and he’s also busy on the Dublab airwaves as the Internet outlet is currently in the middle of its fund-raising Proton Drive. … L.A. songstress Karin Tatoyan will go to Seattle this summer to record her debut. … The Sweet Hurt perked some ears at the Juliette Commagere residency last week when the Wendy Wang-led ensemble finished their set with a new song “Sadly Happy,” which was, well, a full-on rocker – it’s the direction she’s headed, Wang told me when she guested on the Buzz Bands show on Little Radio later in the week. … Live music is now being booked (occasionally) at downtown’s Club 740, but after taking in the recent War Tapes/Gran Ronde/She Wants Revenge show there, I’m not sure I’m ready to recommend it. … And, has anybody been to the Fold’s new venue, the Bootleg Theater? Saturday’s O+S show looks pretty promising.
