[A heaping helping of birthday wishes to David Byrne, and now to capsulize a busy night in the city:]

edwardsharpe2Even if you steer clear of the boldfaced names playing the bigger rooms – Mos Def at the House of Blues, Murs and Tech N9ne at the Key Club, the Indigo Girls at the El Rey Theatre – tonight has a lot to offer. Three of L.A. most promising up-and-comers, Afternoons, the Happy Hollows and Warpaint, combine to fill the marquee at the Troubadour (Afternoons have been sharing some new material at Web in Front). … At downtown’s Regent Theater, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros [pictured] play the last in their three-week series of shows, supported by Dhani Harrison’s Thenewno2, We Are the World and Amnion. … It’s Art Walk downtown, too, which should add to the party atmosphere at the Regent and at other locales offering live music – like the Garden Party at Edgar Varela Fine Arts (542 S. Alameda), where Love Grenades are performing. …”  Grammy nominee Janaelle Monae plays Royce Hall. … At the Echo, the Polyamorous Affair and Halloween Swim Team head up a fun Manimal Vinyl night. … Scout Niblett released “It’s Time My Beloved” last month and headlines Spaceland. … Also: Jim Hanft and Ernie Halter are back for another Thursday at the Hotel Cafe; Restavrant continues its residency at the Silverlake Lounge; and Sara Watkins is at Largo.
