Amazing Baby, Band of Skulls to play Hammer series

There’s no terrestrial radio station to tout it – and somebody get to work on that, will ya? – but the Hammer Museum’s summertime music series, “Also I Like to Rock,” returns to the Westwood Village institution in July with a lively slate of indie-rock bands. The series, promoted in past years by rock station Indie 103.1 (which died four months ago), hasn’t officially been announced that I’ve seen, but the shows are up on the Hammer calendar.
Tentatively scheduled to kick off the series on July 2 will be two buzzed-about touring acts, Brooklyn’s Amazing Baby [pictured] and London’s Band of Skulls, along with L.A. dance-rock band Dazzler. Amazing Baby, which will open for Phoenix at the Wiltern on June 28, releases its debut album “Rewild” on June 23. Band of Skulls’ debut, “Baby Darling Doll Face Honey,” is due July 28.

The rest of the “Also I Like to Rock” series looks a lot like past Indie 103.1-curated nights at the Hammer and at Eastside clubs – the main emphasis is on some of L.A.’s best ascendant indie-rock bands. On July 9, it will be Everest and Red Cortez. The bill July 16 features Foreign Born and Warpaint. And on July 23, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Eskimohunter are scheduled. The free shows will start at 8 p.m. (The final Thursday of July, not part of the “Rock” series, features the L.A. Jazz Collective.)

and well done, as usual
