[Happy birthday to Neil Finn … Now on to a busy night on the circuit:]
Big shows at opposite ends of the sonic spectrum: The Prodigy, behind their muscular new album “Invaders Must Die,” return to L.A., and if Soundcheck’s review of Wednesday’s show at the Grove of Anaheim is any indication, the Palladium will be no place for weaklings tonight. … Mark Kozelek brings the sublime sounds of Sun Kil Moon to the El Rey Theatre, where Mia Doi Todd opens. … The Thermals, who roared into the Buzz Bands annals with 2006’s very fine “The Body, the Blood, the Machine,” are back with “Now We Can See” (released in April on Kill Rock Stars), a sonically less thundering take on their sharp commentary. The Portland trio hits the Troubadour with fellow Oregonians the Shaky Hands. … Sweden’s Jens Lekman brings his winsome indie-pop to the Echo. … Moe does the first of a two-night stand at the Roxy. … It’s a busy night for local bands too – War Tapes [more on them later] celebrates the release of “Continental Divide” at Club Moscow at Boardner’s, and DNA marks the release of “Passenger” at the Viper Room. … Love Grenades parties at Club NME at Spaceland. … The Hard to Get heads up a big bill at the Silverlake Lounge. … Eagle Winged Palace visits the the 3 Club. … And Carina Round returns for another Wednesday at the Hotel Cafe.
