tacozoneTuesday afternoon update: The Mae Shi have dropped off the bill for this benefit, and a new lineup is in the works. Stay tuned.

Vandals on Friday night set fire to the locally famous TacoZone taco truck stationed on Alvarado a couple blocks north of Sunset. The setback knocked the popular dispensers of late-night munchies out of business briefly, but they have rebounded with a repaired truck. A benefit show to help offset the costs of those repairs has been arranged for Friday at Spaceland, featuring the Mae Shi, Kenan Bell, Robert Francis and, the organizer vows, “special guests.” A benefit for a taco truck, now that’s L.A. … Just when I expected a revival of the genre in Silver Lake, the Grammys announce that they will eliminate polka music as an award category. … I will confess, after languishing over Travis Keller’s latest gossip installment, that Buddyhead manages to say 99% of what I’d like to say 100% of the way I would never say it. … Between ESPN and the MLB channel the past couple of days, I heard three of my favorite songs (from the Wedding Present, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Whigs, respectively) used in commercials or promos. I’m ancient enough that those things used to bother me; now they make me smile. … On the other hand, just when you thought vacuous couldn’t get any more empty, I give you the Brokencyde. … Origami Records is having a Sonic Youth fest on Tuesday in honor of the band’s new release “The Eternal,” with Pocahaunted and Shiloe playing and other activities. … And over at Largo tonight, there’s big shindig to mark the release of Jeff Buckley’s CD/DVD “Grace Around the World,” including performances and a family/friends meet-and-greet, with proceeds from the celebration (tickets are $45 and $100) going to benefit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
