[Apologies – this installment of Tonight in L.A. was delayed by the, ahem, aftereffects of Last Night in L.A. …]
It’s no secret how much Art Brut is admired around Buzz Bands HQ; we’ve even been known to affect corny English accents and say “brilliant” as we witness Eddie Argos’ shout-sung self-flagellations. The British quintet tonight begins a four-night stand in L.A. – three at Spaceland, then Friday at the Echo. Tonight’s opener is value-added with the appearance of Miike Snow [pictured], a bi-continental trio of producers, Sweden’s Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (who’ve worked with Britney Spears and Madonna) and NYC’s Andrew Wyatt [plenty of downloads here.] … LANDy celebrates the release of “Eros and Omissions” at the Echo, and the secret weapons at that show are the unfortunately named Danish electro-rockers Spleen United, who will be playing a handful of shows around the town the next week or so. … Bat for Lashes plays a sold-out show at the El Rey Theatre. … The Section Quartet does a special show (its first in a year) at Largo with some heavyweight guests – Jon Brion, Grnt Lee Phillips, Sam Phillips and Rob Dickinson among them – as well as “some comedic and visual surprises.” … Matisyahu brings it at the Wiltern. … It gets bluesy at the Silverlake Lounge, where Mississippi Man performs, while Raining Jane continues its residency at the Hotel Cafe (with a lead-in set by Amy Kuney). … And Wrong Way Driver highlights a big lineup at the Airliner.
