Deleted Scenes’ debut album “Birdseed Shirt” is a sonic and emotional roller-coaster, possessing the stubborn eclecticism of a Modest Mouse and the melodic moodswings of your favorite roots rockers. If you want an album with a “vibe,” move on – but “Birdseed Shirt’s” shifting dynamics feel very organic, if not downright stirring. The Washington, D.C., quartet visits the Silverlake Lounge tonight for a show that ought to be a must-see for indie-rock purists.

There wasn’t a glowstick in the house (and too sparse a crowd for a rave) Tuesday night at the Echo for Spleen United’s early set. Which was OK for now – the synth-rock quartet from Denmark, is simply dipping its toes in Los Angeles’ waters for a week or so to start the buzz for the U.S. release of its album in October. They’re hopping on random club shows (although, I submit, they could bring the house down if they played Control at the Avalon), including tonight at the Viper Room and Friday at the Bootleg Theater. Spleen’s is a biting techno sound that reminds me of Utah Saints in places (and maybe Depeche Mode/Muse in others); the barrage of beats and sequencer scribbles will make your inner computer swoon.

Deleted Scenes played an excellent show @ the Beauty Bar in San Diego last night. It was really nice to hear something refreshing without all the indie-snobbery.
I love a good scribble.
