Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch keeps it sweet with his female-fronted solo outing “God Help the Little Girl” – a soundtrack, he says, to a film that has not yet been made. (Murdoch tells the story to the Guardian here.) This album (out today on Matador), in the works for the past five years with some of the songs written during the “Dear Catastrophe Waitress” tour, features vocalists Catherine Ireton, Alex Klobouk and Celia Garcia, all who invoke a classic female pop sensibility reminiscent of Dusty Springfield. A 45-piece orchestra takes the listener on a breathtaking musical journey.

Having played shows at Cinespace and Boardner’s last week, San Francisco’s dark electro-pop foursome Lilofee (fronted by the saucy Berlin native Kimi Recor) is continuing to promote their 2009 album, “The Only Years.” The band’s name comes from the German tale of a sea princess, and the story parallels their music quite well. “There she’d sit and watch the water dance / it put her in a dreamlike trance.” Lilofee’s dreamy electro is more likely to induce dance than trance – you’ll get the idea in this remix by DJ Jimmy Love of Non Stop Bhangra.
