News bits: Lollapalooza, Kenan Bell, Living Things

yeahyeahyeahspamelalittkyThat was fast. Yeah Yeah Yeahs have replaced Beastie Boys as co-headliners at Lollapalooza. The Beasties were forced to cancel their upcoming tour because Adam “MCA” Yauch is undergoing treatment for a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland.

Nice gig: Local rapper Kenan Bell has been tabbed as the opening act for the upcoming De La Soul tour, which begins Thursday and hits the Key Club on Friday.

Perfect: Kudos to whoever decided to cast St. Louis rockers Living Things as the Ramones in “The Runaways,” the biopic about the groundbreaking 1970s girl group led by Joan Jett. Oh, Living Things singer Lillian Berlin is married to the film’s writer and director Floria Sigismondi? Well, good job anyway. Speaking ofthe Runaways, yes, that was Kim Fowley having trouble at the Knitting Factory box office on Saturday night – a manager-type fixed the guest-list snafu so Fowley could take in Girl in a Coma (who are on Jett’s label) and Miss Derringer.

Twitter and tunes: Yeah, you can share music using Twitter now. Here’s a gem I found today – Cary Brothers’ gorgeous live cover of the Verve’s “The Drugs Don’t Work.”
